Spring Break

As this is the last week before spring break for us you hear everyone talking about where they are going and for how long. I have mostly heard a lot of students going to Florida, that seems to be the hot spot this year for break, for me I am just heading home to relax and not spend any money. The reason I am blogging about spring break is because you always see ads on T.V. or online for spring break trips and the deals you can get them for them. My question is that is it really a good deal for many of these trips with us being broke college students?

In response to Griffin Corse's Maple Syrup

After reading Griffin's blog about maple syrup it made me think back when I used to go out sugaring with my friends Dad who had a sugaring house and how much fun it was doing it. He did it mostly for fun and sold some of it to people but was never reliable on it for income. When I saw Griffin's blog I remembered that to many people it is very important and they put a lot of time and effort into so they can make the most out if it and not lose money. As Griffin states it is hard to market maple syrup when there are so many brands and other people doing the same thing. I think the best way to market or differentiate it would be locally even though they sell the barrels to a big company I think distributing locally would draw in a good amount of consumers knowing they are helping a local citizen and helping them live the way that they help the community by sugaring or farming.

Rediculous Gas Prices

In the last two weeks gas prices in America have risen on average of 34 cents due to the oil crisis in Libya. This sudden outbreak in high gas prices is taken a toll on everyone in the United States as many people are having trouble putting gas in their tanks now. Just two weeks ago gas was around or under $3 a gallon now we are looking at $3.40 a gallon which is the highest it has been in 3 or 4 years. If the price of oil keeps increasing our economy which seemed to be on the verge of becoming stronger and out of a recession will just fall right back into one if gas prices reach $4 a gallon, I know I will be having trouble filling the tank every week. Does the sudden increase in gas prices affect you?

In Response to Rachelle Beaudoin's post on toothpaste

Every day on television I see at least 3 different commercials for 3 different kind of toothpaste. Rachelle is absolutely right about there being way too many kinds of toothpaste in our society. Each company trying to out do the other one or target a certain market whether it be young kids with just their favorite cartoon characters on the outside or adults that want whiter teeth. As Rachelle says there should  be a survey of some sort to eliminate some of the 352 different kinds of toothpaste out there because it just doesn't seem practical to have that many when really they are all pretty much the same thing.

March Madness!!!!!!!!!

As march approaches and the basketball season for colleges come towards the end, the greatest tournament of the year for me to watch is the Division 1 college basketball tournament otherwise known as "March Madness". Every year I watch this tournament on T.V. from beginning to end with one game on T.V. and 4 or more scores to other games in the corner of the T.V. The tournament is always on CBS and they are the only network to broadcast the games so you can only watch one game at a time which isn't as much fun as switching back and forth to games if they were on T.V. This year for the first time ever every single game of the tournament will be on T.V. as they have joined with TNT, TBS, and Tru T.V. to bring the spectators every game on T.V. The NCAA has decided to expand the T.V. broadcasts so that we can watch every game and we'll know that if our favorite team is playing that they will be on T.V. on one channel. The big dance is going to be fantastic this year as they have been advertising it since November and it always lives up to its hype with every game being exciting, i cannot wait for the madness to start. Have you heard or seen any advertisement for this tournament?

Response to Kelsey Rhodes-Social Media? A good way to advertise?

After reading Kelsey's post and seeing the great possibilites that facebook and twitter have for small businesses it made me come to think that a restaurant like Country Life should take full action these. These sites are free and easy to use and pose a great way of advertising and promotion to a very wide market that is online alot. A simple facebook page may draw in 10 new customers and it may seem small but that is 10 more that came in the day before or each week. The society we live in today is always on the computer or some sort of technology and advertising this way can be a great tool

Presidents Day Annual Car Sale

Each year all car and truck manufacturers have the biggest sales of the year on Presidents day. For the past two weeks all car commercials have been about the huge savings you can make on buying a new car in this specific time period of Presidents to mid March or so. They spend millions of dollars on advertising, marketing, commercials, anything they can do to spread the word of this blowout deal on cars or trucks is out there. The real question is though are we really getting the best deal? Some people think and I am starting to wonder that all dealerships raise their prices ever so slightly to make it seem as if were getting all this money off on a new car when really were maybe getting it for a grand or two less than the sticker value. What do you think is actually is going on behind the scenes of a dealership during these huge blowout savings?
